[EN] Burabay International Short Film Festival (BISFF) is not just a competition and festival, but a gateway to the international festival ecosystem and real industry opportunities for short film creators and screenwriters. Competition winners will receive grants for the production and promotion of their projects. Total prize fund: $20,000 USD.

The final stage of the competition will take place at the festival on August 12–14 at the Burabay resort (Kazakhstan) during the velvet season. This is not only a unique location, but also a space for the concentration of ideas, dialogue, and decision-making, where participants have the opportunity not only to showcase their work, but to integrate into the international cultural and professional context.

BISFF was founded by the Silk Road Media holding (London) in partnership with Eurasian Creative Guild (London) and is part of an international network of festivals and screenings covering the UK, Europe, and Latin America. Participation in the festival is a step towards further promotion of the project beyond a single platform.

SEASON THEME 2026: “SOUL OF THE EARTH”
The festival focuses on stories that shape values and define the direction of the future.

We invite works exploring:
◆ ecology and conscious attitude to the world
◆ the power of community and mutual support
◆ love and care for children and animals
◆ friendship, unity and solidarity
◆ spirituality, roots, traditions and cultural heritage

BISFF gives priority to projects with a positive, constructive agenda and a deep conceptual layer.

NOMINATIONS

BEST SCREENPLAY - screenplays for short films up to 17 pages (excluding the title page) in international format are accepted in this category. Screenplays must also align with the festival theme. Only English-language submissions are accepted!

BEST SHORT FILM - the best film of the festival selected by the jury. Duration no more than 45 minutes. Films must be in English or обязательно with English subtitles.

BEST SOCIAL ISSUE DRAMA - the best film addressing significant social issues, selected by the jury. Duration no more than 45 minutes. Films must be in English or обязательно with English subtitles.

SELECTION SYSTEM

Selection takes place in three stages:

1. Selected (Long List)
Works that have passed the initial selection and meet the festival requirements.

2. Finalist (Short List)
Works selected by the jury.
Announcement of finalists: July 15, 2026.

3. Award Winners

Determined during the final pitching session on August 12–14 in Burabay (online or offline). Participation in the festival involves a fee from 150 to 600 pounds depending on the selected category. The festival page link will be available later.

Burabay International Short Film Festival (BISFF) no es solo un concurso y festival, sino una puerta de entrada al ecosistema internacional de festivales y a oportunidades reales de la industria para creadores de cortometrajes y guionistas. Los ganadores del concurso recibirán subvenciones para la realización y promoción de sus proyectos. Fondo total de premios: $20,000 USD.

La fase final del concurso se celebrará en el festival del 12 al 14 de agosto en el resort de Burabay (Kazajistán), en plena temporada alta. BISFF da prioridad a proyectos con una agenda positiva, constructiva y un profundo contenido conceptual.

BEST SCREENPLAY - en esta categoría se aceptan guiones de cortometraje de hasta 17 páginas (sin contar la portada) en formato internacional. Los guiones también deben ajustarse a la temática del festival. ¡Solo se aceptan en inglés!

BEST SHORT FILM - el mejor filme del festival seleccionado por el jurado. Duración no superior a 45 minutos. Las películas deben estar en inglés o obligatoriamente con subtítulos en inglés.

SISTEMA DE SELECCIÓN

La selección se realiza en tres etapas:

1. Selected (Long List)
Obras que han superado la preselección y cumplen los requisitos del festival.

2. Finalist (Short List)
Obras seleccionadas por el jurado.
Anuncio de finalistas: 15 de julio de 2026.

3. Award Winners
